American Bulldog

June 18, 2019

The American Bulldog is a very muscular, powerful and extremely sturdy looking dog with fairly long legs for a Bulldog variety which give the breed agility and a good turn of speed. The head is large and square shaped and the breed possesses a very strong jaw, the chest is wide but surprisingly deep giving the breed its powerful appearance.

Their eyes are generally small and can vary considerably in their colouration but brown is the most common colour seen, the ears are pendant styled and can appear half-pricked. White is the main colour observed in the American Bulldog which can be solid or mixed with brown, tan, black and many other colour combinations but generally there is always white.

 American Bulldog Character

The American Bulldog has a reputation that unfortunately precedes it due to its strong and sturdy appearance it is often associated with being an aggressive breed, in reality they are one of the most loyal, brave and reliable dogs you could meet. They are not a naturally hostile breed although they do possess a strong protective streak towards their family/owners, they require good training and excellent socialising from a young age.

The American Bulldog does make a good guard/watch dog due to its protective nature, the breed does have a high prey drive instinct so unless it is introduced to smaller pets at an early age I would recommend being highly cautious if you intend keeping smaller pets along with an American Bulldog.
