The Alaskan Malamute is a large powerfully built Arctic dog. It has a broad chest, head and muzzle. The breed has a thick, double-layered, weatherproof coat and can vary in colour from light grey to black and occasionally with shades of red. The under parts of the Alaskan Malamute are always distinctively white. The ears stand erect and their fully furred tail is carried high over their back.

The Alaskan Malamute is a very friendly breed of dog, making it a hopeless watchdog as intruders would be licked to death! They rarely bark either so would not alert their owners to strangers. They are loyal and noble dogs with a high energy level that requires satisfying with lots of exercise.
If introduced at an early age to children and other animals they will accept them but should be supervised at all times, Alaskan Malamutes are essentially pack animals and therefore do not like being left alone.
